About the Club
We are a private, members only, AMA chartered club. We have a membership of approximately 110 members ranging in age from 4 and 5 years, (already AMA members), to... well, to old to ask. Our members have a wide variety of R.C. modeling interests from small indoor foamies to giant scale airplanes, small electric to large nitro powered helicopters, sailplanes and gliders.
If you're intersted in membership, please attend a couple of our friendly meetings or be sponsored by a current member.
Club History
Our R/C model flying club is located in Joliet, Il, and has been in existance under several names since the early 1940's. We as the Joliet Radio Control Club have officially been a club since October 16, 1975. With only seven members present, the current club founders elected President Jim Bertino, Vice-president George Shride and Secretary/Treasurer Gene Dolasin. Since our early beginnings, our club has existed and flown over several different flying fields. With the 1998 building of the nationaly known Route 66 Raceway, we were forced to relocate from a very nice, well developed field. We really sad to see the old field go, we had beautiful grass, a good location, and a great neighbor and land lord.
Membership
Our club currently has over 120 members. As a part of a private club, our members enjoy a rich and diverse group of modelers and pilots. Whose experience ranges from the earliest beginner to folks considered almost crazy. Some of the things are members enjoy flying include the following. Gas, nitro and electric powered trainer, sport and competition airplanes. Indoor flat foamies to 40 percent aircraft. Turbine and electric jets. Nitro and electric indoor to 90 size helicopters. We do it all and love the variety.
Flying Site
Although its location is kept hidden for good reason. The Joliet RC Club flying field is approximately 1300 feet by 350 feet. It is regularly cut and groomed by loyal club members. And since it is not a forest preserve field, the field is available to members at anytime on anyday. That is of course barring terrible weather.
Club Picnic
Our annual club picnic is held every year in August. We encourage any and every club member to attend, flying or not. Come out, pal around, help out and have a great time. Cold drinks and hot food are provided free for club members.
Hobby Instruction
One of the hardest parts of getting into our hobby is purchasing the right items. The second hardest part is learning how to fly your new fangled contraption. And the third is understanding how everything your purchased works together to create a flying model. As a diverse club we have the knowledge to help with almost every part and aspect of our great hobby. We also have some of the most friendly and talented people in the hobby, willing to help in anyway they can. We can advise you on the selection of an ideal trainer model, look over your equipment and provide ground and flight instruction.
